My Uncle Bob is my Mom's brother. They were always close, sometimes not always in the amount of time they were able to spend with each other but in that they were connected and bonded at their core and who they were. When they were 3 and 4 years old, their parents for all intents and purposes "abandoned" them and they were raised by their grandmother. At some point, they each decided to be better people and better parents than theirs were, and they both succeeded phenomenally at this. They have both been caring, generous people who have had a strong sense of responsibility, loyalty, family and community. Both are down to earth, genuine people, with a positive, happy outlook - in spite of their "less-than-ideal" childhood; most of the memories that they shared about those days were happy and fun. They've always had a willing, self-sacrificing spirit, ready to care for others. They're both remarkable people. Mom has advanced Alzheimers, so does not know/understand that her brother is gone for now, which in some ways is probably a blessing. But Uncle Bob will be missed, until we see him again.
One story I wanted to share: when he was in the hospital earlier this month, the nurse came in and asked if he needed anything. With that twinkle in his eyes, he said, "Yeah, a new body!" He and we all laughed! He kept his sense of humor til the end. Love you, Uncle Bob.

Bob Whiting, Ontario Beach Park Program Comm. February 23, 2024

Bob and Flo volunteered many, many hours serving others with the Marine Volunteer Fire Dept and the Ontario Beach Park Program Committee, organizing and delivering activities such as Harborfest, Concerts By the Shore , Robach Center Dances and the Lakeside Winter Celebration. Bob could have been relaxing at his cottage in Sodus Point but he chose to devote much of his time and energy to the betterment of the community. Thank you Robert for making Charlotte a better place to live and play.

Uncle Bob was my godfather along with his wife my Aunt Florence. I spent a lot of time growing up with them when my parents would travel. I remember celebrating my birthday with them one year and they both did everything they could to make up for the fact that my parents were in Vegas. Always stepping up. They were both extremely proud when I graduated Nursing School. He was funny, goofy, and always made people laugh. He lived to serve and had a profound love of his country. RIP Uncle Bob…. Until we meet again
Cheryl 🙏🏻💙
