Obituary

Beverly Ann (Meyer) Tomaino

Pittsford: Born October 9, 1936, passed away April 6, 2024. Predeceased by her parents Alvin L. Meyer and Dorothy Scorse Meyer and her brother Donald Meyer. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Michael T. Tomaino, and by her five children, Matthew M. Tomaino (Amy) of Brighton, Mark M. Tomaino (Diana Martin) of Newport Coast, CA, Andrea E. Tomaino (Gregory Huether) of Pittsford, Michael T. Tomaino, Jr. of Rye, NY, Julie T. Duff (Kevin) of Oak Park, IL, and by her six grandchildren, Elizabeth A. Duff-Russo (Sam) and Thomas K. Duff, of Chicago, Nicholas J. Tomaino (Madeleine Kearns) of New York City, Peter B. Duff of Chicago, Shane E. Tomaino of New York City and Andrew M. Duff of Oak Park, IL.

Affectionately known as Mimi to her grandchildren, Bev spent her childhood in Greece, NY, her earliest years near her Grandfather Scorse's farm, and graduated from Nazareth Academy in 1955 after which she obtained her AAS in Dental Hygiene from what was then the Erie County Technical Institute. She met her husband Michael in 1954 when they were in high school and, after going "steady", married in 1959.

After a brief career in dental hygiene, Bev became a full-time mother par excellence, having her five children within seven years. But in addition to being a devoted, loving mother, she was tremendously supportive of her husband's legal career, willingly entertaining colleagues and clients while taking on all the daily activities of the children.

As her children grew and became more independent, Bev became active in many volunteer activities over the years including the Parents' Boards at McQuaid Jesuit and Our Lady of Mercy High Schools, the Becket Hall Board of Trustees, the Board of Trustees of Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, the Women's Councils at the Memorial Art Gallery, the Rochester Museum and Science Center and the George Eastman Museum and as a volunteer at the Friendly Home and both Strong and Rochester General Hospitals.

She was dynamic as a homemaker and remodeler and was famous among her friends for the number of times she changed homes. She was an accomplished gardener and hosted an annual meeting of the Rochester Garden Club at her home on Taylor Road in Mendon. She also contributed her decorating and gardening skills since 1988 to the Chatterbox Club where she also served as a director.

Nothing, however, was more important to Bev than her family. Her beauty and elegance were surpassed only by her motherly love of and attention to her children and grandchildren which was recognized and reciprocated in no small measure.

Bev's family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful team of aides led by Sue Mathews for their loving care.

A Funeral Mass will celebrate Bev's life at St. John of Rochester Church, 8 Wickford Way, Fairport, NY, at 10:00 a.m. on April 20, 2024. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Tomaino Family Scholarship Fund, Rochester Area Community Foundation, 500 East Avenue, Rochester, NY 14607
