Audrey M. Church

Went to heaven on February 2, 2024, at age 99. Predeceased by husband Jerry & son Rodney. Survived by loving daughter, Susan (Charles) Logel; grandchildren, Bob (Lynn), Jerrod (Cari), Wendy (Brian), & Tracey, great-grandchildren: Stephanie, Jason, Giana, Brayden, Jordan, Brileigh & Nathan; special niece: Elaine Luciano; Sally Wandtke who Audrey considered a second daughter; several nieces & nephews.

Audrey's life story will be celebrated during her visitation on Thursday, February 8th from 2-5 pm, followed by a funeral service at 5 pm at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane, 14626. Interment will be private. Remembering Audrey:

Audrey was born December 11, 1924, in Rochester, NY to Andrew and Emma Kuhn. Andrew worked at Wegmans as a meat cutter & rolled his own cigarettes. Emma had her hands full at home, raising 4 children, Andrew, Elmer, Esther & Audrey. When Audrey was born, her cousin showed up at their house with a cat and a puppy in his pockets. The puppy, Kernel, lived to be 18 years old.

Growing up, Audrey and Esther enjoyed shopping, playing bingo together and going for walks. They used to have parties on Saturdays with friends at each other's houses, they would clean out the dining room to create a dance floor, and dance to the music of an accordion player. She was remarkably close with her cousins, Hazel & Marian. They used to walk to Sea Breeze at night to meet up with their boyfriends. She spent a lot of time with her neighbor, Inez, they were inseparable and did everything together.

Audrey attended #36 school on Carter St, and then Benjamin Franklin, until the 10th grade, when she dropped out to go to work. She was a hard worker; she enjoyed babysitting, she worked in a shoe store with the perk of getting free shoes, Star Market, Canty's Paper Box Factory (which was conveniently right next door to her house), Wollensocks, where she polished and measured lenses, she also worked in the bakeries of Park Edge Grocery and Top's.

In 1945, Audrey married Jerry A. Church. They had met at a bar during an evening out. Together they had 2 children, Rodney & Susan. They had a boxer named Rocky... but not by choice. Rodney had planned behind their back to have Rocky brought to their house. They enjoyed going on picnics and staying at cottages every year on Black Lake or Honeoye Lake with friends and family. Audrey & Jerry loved to bowl. They were in bowling leagues and would sometimes travel for tournaments, noting during one tournament she scored higher than Jerry and her brother-in-law. Unfortunately, Jerry passed away at a young age in 1965, he was only 38.

In September of 1986, Audrey suffered another loss too soon. Her son, Rodney passed away at age 40. These losses that she endured were undoubtedly the toughest times in her life, but she was a fighter, and held onto memories. She prayed to Jerry and Rodney every morning and every night.

Audrey attended Grace Lutheran Church & Resurrection Lutheran Church. She often got together with Sue, Sally, Elaine, Marcia, & Kim to play cards for money. She would get agitated if she lost, and always complained when they played "nines." When there wasn't money on the line, she liked to play board games with Bob, Lynn, Stephanie & Jason, her favorite was the Aggravation board game.

She enjoyed music by Jenny Vale, Andy Williams & Tony Bennett, but her absolute favorite was listening to bagpipes. She loved the sound of them so much that her grandson, Bob, and his wife Lynn, arranged a surprise for her favorite group "Highlanders" to play at her house, it was one of her favorite memories of her life.

Spending time with her family and friends was so important to her. She loved the gatherings. Talking with her grandchildren on the phone or seeing them was always a highlight for her! And Chuck, Susan's husband, was not only her son-in-law but a second son to her in every sense of the word. She appreciated everything he did for her, and she loved him very much. Her time with the "country cousins," Sally, Gayle, Lin, & Kari at their brunch dates always brought lots of laughs and created lasting memories.

Her son, Rodney, and daughter, Susan, had such a significant impact on her life. Sue was always there for her, always took loving care of her, Audrey said 'I don't know what I would do without her, I love her very much'.

She was a giving, loving, caring, sweet, compassionate, independent woman. She would often say, "I don't have to do anything that I don't want to do!" She was kind, and always smiling, loving & living life to the fullest despite the challenges she had faced throughout her lifetime. When she was diagnosed with Lung Cancer, she continued to fight until she could fight no longer. She wanted everyone to always remember her with love, hold onto the memories they had created over the years and live a happy life. May she rest in peace, and pain free, reunited with her husband and beloved son. Audrey will be deeply missed and forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
