Obituary

WALWORTH - Daniel Charles Smialek, 74, passed away September 15, 2023. Daniel is predeceased by parents, Andrew W. Smialek & Blanche R. Smialek; siblings, Rosalie Lowery, Patricia Foley, Walter Smialek, Byron Smialek, & Marita Smialek. He is survived by his brother, Anthony (Cheech) Smialek and sister-in-law, Darlene Smialek. Dan is survived by two daughters; two sons-in-law; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; partner, Candy Minchella & her family; dear friend, George Prizzi; nieces & nephews.

Dan grew up in Cecil, PA and came to Rochester. He entered RIT, earning his Associate in Applied Science, Bachelor of Science, and Master of Science degrees there.

He began his professional career at RIT as an interpreter at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf. He continued his career there as a professor in the College of Continuing Education and he also served as the Chair of the Business Program in the College of Continuing Education. He completed his career at RIT as the Building Operations Technician for the Center for Imaging Science, one of the largest research centers at RIT. He is remembered as an outstanding instructor in Statistics and as a pioneer in distance learning at RIT. Dan was also an adjunct professor at Keuka College.

Dan enjoyed cooking, home improvement projects, working in his yard, reading, and doing research on his computer. He will be fondly remembered as a problem solver who offered his help wherever he could.

Dan's visitation will be held on October 25th from 4-6PM at Bartolomeo & Perotto Funeral Home (1411 Vintage Lane). His funeral service will be celebrated on October 26th at 10AM at the funeral home, with inurnment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to the Sisters of St. Joseph (150 French Road, Rochester, NY 14618).
