John E. Philippone, Esq.

June 19, 2023. Rochester. John is predeceased by his parents, Frank & Minnie Philippone & brother Frank C. Philippone, Jr., and sister Rosemary Dixon. John is survived by his wife and best friend of 56 years, Eileen M. Philippone; children, Francine (David) Philippone-Perkins of Buffalo, David J. (Mary) Philippone, Esq. of Camillus & Christine (Henry) Salvi, Esq. of PA; grandchildren Natalie (Anthony) Graziano, Maya, Jacob, Joshua Bernstein, Michael, Maura Philippone, Isabella & Sophia Salvi; brother, James V. Philippone, Esq.; sister Theresa Philippone of FL., several cousins, nieces & nephews.

John graduated from The Aquinas Institute in 1959. His college years found him attending St. John Fisher College, where he received his bachelor's degree in 1963, after which he attended NY Law School and received his Law Degree in 1966.

John's enjoyments in life were music, Law & baseball. He loved music. He studied Trumpet & Bass at the Eastman School of Music. Soon thereafter, from 1959-1963 he was the Director of LeSaints Jazz Band at St. John Fisher. He was also the leader of the John Philippone Quintet, of which two of its members, Steve Gadd & Jerry Niewood went on to enjoy illustrious careers.

John began his law career serving Monroe County as an Assistant DA from 1966-1972. He then became Special Counsel to the Rochester Police Commissioner. In 1974, John began his private practice, John E. Philippone, PC and was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. In 2016, the Monroe County Bar Association honored him for 50 years of a storied and dedicated career in the practice of law.

John was highly active both privately and publicly with Rochester Red Wings Baseball. From 1981-2011, John played an active role in helping Red Wings players and their families find housing. He was a former member of the Executive Committee as well as a former VP of Rochester Community Baseball. At the time of his death John was the Secretary of the Rochester Red Wing's Hall of Fame Committee.

When John was not busy with the demands of his career, he always looked forward to spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and his Dachshund dogs, Bogart & Bella.

John participated in numerous community and civic organizations. He was Past-President of the Italian American Businessmen's Association.

His Funeral Mass was held at St. Stanislaus Church, and entombment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery was private. John's family appreciates the courtesy of no flowers, donations may be directed to Aquinas Institute, 1127 Dewey Ave., Rochester, NY 14613 Humans Society at Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Rd., Fairport, NY 14450 in his memory.
