Obituary

Rose M. Piazza (Licata)

Rose Piazza, called "Ma" by her daughters, "Granny" by her grandchildren, and "GG" by her 10 great-grandchildren, departed on September 17, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Rochester, New York on March 15, 1928, to Ignazio and Phillippa Licata.

Rose was mother to Lorrie and Joyce. She raised her daughters with love and devotion in Gates, New York with her husband Anthony Piazza.

Rose led an adventurous life. She joined the workforce at a young age working in retail, making glasses at Germanow-Simon Corporation, filling vending machines, and driving a forklift at a foundry. Later in her life, she enjoyed painting pumpkins during the fall season.

Granny loved being outside. She enjoyed camping with her family. She was always up for taking her daughters and nieces/nephews fishing or hiking in the woods. She enjoyed the family cottage at Canandaigua Lake where she water-skied, enjoyed campfires and played cards.

Rose had many hobbies. She crocheted beautiful blankets, delicate doilies, and baptismal outfits for her family. She was the Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader for both her daughters. She was an accomplished bowler and enjoyed golf.

She started visiting Las Vegas in the late '70s and developed a passion for slot machine poker. This passion continued all through her life. She liked playing board games/puzzles and watching old westerns on TV at volume 150!

She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with abandon. Granny never missed a game or a school function. She also had close relationships with both of her "favorite" sons-in-law.

Spending time with her family was so special to Rose. She especially enjoyed spending time with her sisters. She adored her sisters Bessie Morinelli, Anna Terrell, and Theresa Prindle Hoyas and her smile was extra-large when she spent time with them. Rose also doted on her many nieces and nephews and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Lorrie (Dave) Simonetti; Joyce (Rich Lawrence) Piazza-Lawrence. Grandchildren, Ross (Jessica) Tomlinson; Danielle (Ricky) Palmiero; Anthony (Kristy) Tomlinson; Nicole Simonetti; Dustin Tomlinson and David Simonetti. Great-grandchildren, Clayton Adamson; Gregory Francis; Blake Tomlinson; Adley Tomlinson; Liam Tomlinson; Jack Tomlinson; RJ Palmiero; Max Tomlinson; Mia Palmiero and Stella Palmiero.
