Survived by

Phil is survived by his adoring children, Carol Ann (Roger "Buz") Cox John (Deborah) Gray; beloved grandchildren, Betsy (Joshua) Murray, Lauren (Kevin) Moravec Ashley Gray; great-grandchild Leah Murray; several nieces, nephews and dear friends.



History

Philip was born prior to the depression and lived through the depression. He enjoyed many things in life. He enjoyed ice skating at Genesee Valley Park, ran cross country at Cobbs Hill Park and ran track. He enjoyed baseball, as a player, a coach and as a spectator. He loved going to see the Rochester Red Wings play baseball on Norton Street and at the new Frontier Field. He also enjoyed playing softball and golf. Phil enjoyed playing tennis with family and friends. He played often at the Maplewood Park tennis courts. He also introduced his granddaughter, Ashley Gray, to tennis. She later was selected The Most Valuable Player her senior year in high school. Phil enjoyed acting in school plays and later acted and directed professionally in many locations in Rochester and throughout upstate and western New York. He especially enjoyed dramatic plays, and often performed works by William Shakespeare.

Services

BARTOLOMEO PEROTTO Funeral Home, Inc., 1411 Vintage Lane (between 390 Long Pond Rd.) where Phil's visitation will be Friday September 19, 2008 2-4 7-9. Prayers for Phil will be on Saturday 9:30 AM at the Funeral Home followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Phil's entombment will follow in All Seasons Chapel Mausoleum at White Haven Memorial Park.



Additional Information

Phil served in the United States Army and was a proud veteran of World War II. Phil was elected Post Commander of the American Legion William W. Doud Post No. 98 and was elected President of the William W. Doud Post No. 98 Corporation. Phil worked as a mechanical engineer and designed many machines, equipment and mechanical components for several companies throughout his life time. Phil also became an instructor for engineering and engineering related courses at several schools in the area. Phil raised his children with his wife, Theresa and together Phil and Theresa enjoyed traveling throughout the country including Lake Worth, Florida, Hawaii and the Fatima Shrine in Lewiston. Phil was very proud of his children, Carol Ann and John; and he was very proud that his granddaughters Betsy, Lauren and Ashley all graduated from college. After taking loving care of his wife, Theresa, for many years with John, Debbie and Ashley, he spent his last years with them enjoying life and remaining independent.
