Survived by

Sadly leaves his daughter Norene (Gerald) Birge; son Michael Stevens; four beloved grandchildren, Michael, Nicole, Gabrielle Katharine; longtime caregiver Gail Porter; sister Carmel (Anthony) Natale; brothers Jack (Lillian) Stevens Lawrence Stevens of Elmira; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunt, uncle and many dear friends.



History

Norie enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He could best be described as a loyal friend, opinionated, a prankster, good listener who always maintained a sense of humor. He was very supportive of the Democratic Party and their philosophies. Norie was also a staunch supporter of labor unions. Norie enjoyed spending his time outdoors. He always looked forward to boating, fishing, gardening and spending time around any body of water. His gardening pursuits included growing basil, tomatoes and garlic. Norie enjoyed listening to music, he especially enjoyed Classical and Operatic selections. Norie was a supporter of WXXI and he enjoyed watching the Food Channel, AE and the History Channel. Norie also participated successfully at wood working and painting projects. Norie always stayed abreast of current events. He would read multiple newspapers daily from front to back. He also had been an avid reader of National Geographic.

In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to American Diabetes Association, PO Box 1132, Fairfax, VA 22038-1132 in Norie's memory.



Services

BARTOLOMEO PEROTTO Funeral Home, Inc., 1411 Vintage Lane (Between 390 Long Pond Rd.) where Norie's visitation will be Saturday 2-4 PM Sunday 1-5 PM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday 10 AM at Our Mother of Sorrows Church, 5000 Mt. Read Blvd. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.



Additional Information

Norie was President of IUE Local 509 Delco for 31 years. He was the longest standing union President in General Motors History. He was Secretary of the General Motors Conference Board. Norie was also a Labor Representative of the former Blue Cross Board of Director's for 5 years. Norie was a WWII Veteran of the Merchant Marines and the US Navy.
