Obituary

Joanne Marie Fleig (Claus)

Born March 8, 1939, at St. Mary's hospital, Rochester, NY and passed away peacefully on April 9, 2024 at St. Ann's Community at 85 years of age. She grew up on Genesee Park Boulevard in Rochester, NY in a family of 8 children. Having attended Our Lady of Good Counsel Elementary school, she went on to graduate from Mercy High School. After working in a lab at Bausch & Lomb, she married and raised 4 children in Greece, NY.

She enjoyed a variety of music and shared this with her children from classical to folk. Many hours were spent at the Paddy Hill Public Library where she instilled in us a love of reading and volunteered as a book repair binder. Her other interests included avid gardening, sewing, genealogy searches and she was a wonderful cook. She volunteered with the Come to the Father program at Mother of Sorrows church. Joanne's faith was always present in her life, but it grew much deeper in the last few years as she listened to mass daily and to many radio programs on EWTN. Her love for God and others blossomed and showed in her smile and eyes!

Survived by 4 Children: Michelle Fleig-Palmer (David), James Fleig (Patty), Mary (Fleig) Dileas, Matthew Fleig, 7 Grandchildren: Sarah (Fleig) Mast, Laura Fleig, Elizabeth (Fleig) Smith, Joshua Fleig, Nathan Dileas, Benjamin Palmer, Emma Dileas, 2 great-grandchildren: Azariah & Elliott Mast, the father of her children John E. Fleig and by 3 of her siblings: Raymond (Skip) Claus, William Claus (Marie), & Cathleen Claus Sippel as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

"Grieve not, nor speak of me with tears, but laugh and talk of as if I were beside you. I loved you so... twas heaven here with you."

Joanne's life story will be celebrated during visitation on Friday, May 17, 1-3 pm & 5:30-7:30 pm. Her Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, at 10 am at St. Ann's Chapel and laid to rest in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Joanne/Mom has asked that we avoid dark clothing and focus on the memories that bring us joy!
