Remembering Patty

Patricia Heberger was born on February 9, 1956 in Rochester, NY. She was the biggest baby in her family and was welcomed joyfully into life at St. Mary's Hospital by parents, Louis Heberger (whom she would affectionately nickname "The Old Coot") and Mary "Jean" Hill. Mary was a mother and homemaker, while Louis worked in the engineering department of Bausch & Lomb. Patty's family also included siblings John, Jim, and Susan.

Patty attended primary school at St. Charles Borromeo in Greece. Since she was left-handed, her mother had to write a special note to her teachers asking them to allow her to write with her dominant hand. She went on to high school at Greece Arcadia, then earned her associate degree in medical records from Monroe Community College. But Patty kept going! She subsequently completed her bachelor's degree in medical records from Daemen University - working diligently to excel in night school and on weekends all while maintaining a full time job.

Once her school days were behind her, Patty launched her career in the medical field as a risk management director for several hospital systems. She was skilled in her profession and made a name for herself as someone who was both active in her own job and in her career's larger community. Patty was very involved in the New York State Medical Records Association and left a lasting legacy in her profession.

In her free time, Patty enjoyed reading, gardening, and listening to Bruno Mars, Adele, The Eagles, and disco music. She unwound with her favorite shows and movies, too, including "The Young and the Reckless," "Ellen," "Seinfeld," "Christmas Vacation," and "Saturday Night Fever." Patty loved Christmastime and was a great host. She always looked forward to entertaining people up at her lake house, cooking for them, having cocktails, and spending quality time together.

Patty's family was one of the most important facets of her life. She met her husband, Gary Krauss, through a personal ad in the newspaper. Their love story was one full of care and devotion, and they married on August 4, 2001. Their union also gave Patty her stepdaughter, Victoria. Together, the family enjoyed numerous trips to Florida, vacations in Cape Cod, and adventures in St. Maarten and the Bahamas.

Friends were another important facet of Patty's life. Christie, whom she first met at work, became a steady companion for dinners and Christmas shopping. They even went on family vacations together to Antigua! Jane, another friend from work, shared frequent lunches and phone calls with her. Susan, Patty's sister, was another one of her close friends. Together, they made treasured memories during the holidays and spending time as couples. She was also dear to her sisters in law on the Krauss side of the family.

Those who carry Patty's memory in their hearts remember her as someone who was spunky, quick-witted, kind, cheerful, and intelligent. She never shied away from challenges - not in school, not at work, not even in her battle with cancer. Her presence will be dearly missed in the lives of those who loved her.
