Gerald was born on December 20th, 1949, in the Eden district of Mocho, Clevendon, Jamaica. The son of Joslyn Dias and Pearl Richards Glashen. Joslyn was an electrician and spent time living in Jamaica and England. Pearl enjoyed being a homemaker and providing for her children. His siblings, George, Pauline, Girley, Tony, and Derek. Gerald moved to the United States in 1974.

Gerald went to trade school, excelling in both mechanical and handy work. After school, he went on to work at Kodak for 25 years as a mechanic and sheet metal fabricator. Gerald had six wonderful children, three sons, Carl, Germaine, and Jerry; as well as three lovely daughters Andrea, Alysha, and Alexys. Through the years, Gerald enjoyed spending time visiting family and friends in Jamaica and Canada.

One of his favorite quotes to say was "I live the life I love and love the life I live." He was a very social man who loved entertaining and spending time with his closest friends Carlton Smith, Jesse Sheffa, Michael Cooper, Todd, Abdullah, Wayne, Sammy, and "Cool Breeze." Friends and family would say that he was confident, caring, giving, funny, independent, and always looking out for his relatives back home.

Gerald's hobbies included listening to Reggae, country, and R&B music. He also enjoyed watching westerns. When Gerald was younger, he loved playing cricket. There is no doubt that he will be missed by friends and family, however, his legacy will live on forever in our hearts.
