Remembering Robert "Papa" LeBlanc

Robert was born on February 13, 1945, in Ft. Covington, NY. He was welcomed into life by parents, Anita and Hector LeBlanc. Anita worked in a slipper factory and as a waitress, and Hector was employed at Alcoa. His childhood years were spent with siblings Cheron, Norman, Jac, and Juanita.

Robert attended elementary school at a one room schoolhouse in Ft. Covington and went on to further his education at Salmon River High School, where he excelled in hockey. After school, he joined the NAVY and served on the USS Intrepid during the Vietnam War. He later attended the Original Data Processing School in Rochester, NY and worked in mixing equipment, at Alcoa, and at the Rochester City School District.

Outside of work, Robert was an active member of Chapter 20 of the Vietnam Veterans, St. Mark's Catholic Church, and the Holy Cross Parish Council. He gave back to his community as a Cub Scout leader and a member of the Little League CYAA Commission. Robert loved bowling, reading Tom Clancy novels, watching the Yankees & Bills, enjoying classic American cars, and making up nicknames for everyone.

Robert met Cheryl Fleury at the Ft. Covington Fireman's Dance, and they married on May 18, 1968. Their family grew with the addition of two sons, Jeffrey (Cissy) and Michael (Jenn) - it grew even further to include grandchildren Jake, Caroline, Audrey, Nate, and Noah. Together, the LeBlanc family bonded over time spent at camp at LeBlanc's Point, trips to Destin, FL, and cruises with family and friends. Robert welcomed a number of animals into his family over the course of his life, too, including cat Abigail, and dogs Pepper, Willy, Charlie, and Brandy-Sue.

Friends were dear to Robert. His friendships with brothers in law Steve & Jack Fleury, Paul Fleury, John & Char, the folks from Dunkin' & Tim Hortons, and the Vietnam Veterans of Chapter 20 were a treasure he was truly grateful for. Robert never met a stranger and readily welcomed people with a beaming smile and generous attitude.

Robert enjoyed listening to 50s on 5, Roy Orbison, Elvis, and Sam Cooke. He watched Jeopardy, westerns, John Wayne movies, History shows, and AGT. He worked meticulously on his yard and home - not letting a single dirty gutter, unwashed car, or dish in the sink go unaddressed.

The LeBlanc family will remember Robert as an example of humor, selflessness, loyalty, and hard work. He lovingly dubbed Cheryl "Muffy" and often quipped that, "the last one in the car is a fat chicken"! Robert taught his family how to push through adversity and reminded them that there is always someone who has it worse, so you should try to be the light in everyone's life.
