Obituary

Nellie (Morabito) Canzano, 93, of Greece, NY, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2023 surrounded by her family.

She is survived by her husband, Dan her son, Dan and daughter-in-law Kathy, her grandchildren, Nicholas (Sara), Carolyn (Michael) Valenti, Patrick (Sarah), and Laura (Mark) Maier, and her great-grandchildren, Addy, Avery, Gavin, Mairyn, Deacon, Violet and Levi. She is also mourned by her sister Jean, sisters-in-law Marie, Mary and Loretta, brother-in-law Joe, and many nieces and nephews. Nellie was predeceased by her parents, Bruno and Angelina Morabito, and siblings Anthony, Bruno, Frances, Joseph, Mary, Paul, Philip, Vincent, and Virginia.

Nellie was born on September 27, 1929 to a large Italian family in Rochester, PA; she was one of 11 children born to Angelina and Bruno Morabito. The importance of family and tradition were instilled in her from the beginning.

On April 26, 1951, Nellie and Dan Canzano were married, beginning their 71 year marriage. Nellie was never without the finest car, thanks to Dan's involvement in the automotive industry, and she could be found cruising around Rochester in a Black Cadillac or Lincoln Continental. Nellie and Dan were actively involved in Kiwanis, serving their local community for decades.

Nellie's most cherished accomplishment was raising her son, Dan. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. If you knew Nellie, you knew how proud she was of Dan, Kathy and their family, as she never hesitated to update you on their whereabouts. She was thrilled to be able to share her Italian traditions with them, especially cooking; her grandchildren can make the family sauce and meatballs, gnocchis, and pizzelles. Even her great-grandchildren have inherited her cooking skills, thanks to her attention and love!

Nellie led a vibrant life, full of friends, travel and hobbies. For years, she proudly worked at Sibley's in the Women's Coats department, specializing in furs, which led to her love of clothing and fashion. She saved all her finest outfits and was known for passing down her favorites, all of which were "brand new", to her granddaughters. She loved to be outside gardening or at home caring for her dogs, but she especially loved to bowl and golf, two hobbies she was able to share with her grandsons.

Nellie was spirited and unshakable from her first day to her last. Her smile, hugs, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by those that knew her.

On Wednesday, February 1 at 9:30 am, family and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 3003 Dewey Ave, Rochester NY 14616 followed by a reception to celebrate her life at Fedele's Brook House, 920 Elm Ridge Center, Rochester NY 14626. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Heart Association, https://www.heart.org/en/get-involved/ways-to-give
