Obituary

Craig Buxton Davis, age 57, of Brockport, NY passed away July 8, 2022.

Craig was born March 23, 1965 in Rochester to Kenneth R. Davis Jr. and Betty Davis. Craig was born with Spina Bifida, a congenital condition that affected his spine. From the get go, you would never know by Craig's disposition that he was born with a disability and unable to use his legs. He was a happy child and always looking to play with his brother Eric, who being many years older, took Craig along with him to most places he went. Eric wanted Craig to see what life had to offer beyond his crutches and wheelchair. Craig decided to use his wheelchair as a vehicle for empowerment instead of disadvantage. When he was in his mid-late teens he joined the Rochester Rookies, a chapter of the Tri-State Wheelchair Athletic Association. Craig competed in the 100, 200, and 400 yard track events and also threw the discus. Over the several years Craig competed, he would consistently medal in all events. The highlight in his track and field career was making it to Nationals in 1986.

Craig went on to work for Time Warner Cable where he worked for 22 years as a technician repairing cable equipment. Craig really enjoyed his time at Time Warner, where he met several good friends and took great pride in being part of the workforce. He only stopped working when the decades of wear and tear on his shoulders from wheelchair use prevented him from doing his job. Even after leaving the workforce, Craig continued to be active, he would regularly drive himself to friends' homes, the store, even to Albany where his brother and his family resided.

In more recent years Craig found a wonderful community of friends at his residence in Brockport, NY. He spent a lot of time with these friends cooking outside, playing cards, sharing jokes and stories, and going out to dinner.

Craig loved many things, the Oakland Raiders, his cat (who he named Raider of course), the New York Yankees, the band KISS, and had a passion for all things paranormal, especially the idea of real-life ghost hunting with his nephew. Most of all Craig loved LIFE and FAMILY, there was nothing more important to Craig than family and he cherished the time he spent with them. He had the most fun bantering back and forth with his older brother and adored his twin nieces and nephew, and especially loved his seven great nieces and nephews. Craig left his family with many great memories and advice, the one piece of advice that stuck the most was to never take time, and spending it with loved ones, for granted.

Craig is survived by his brother Eric (Sharon) Davis, nieces and nephews, Kristen (Bob) Long, Melissa (Chris) Usher, Brad (Mary) Davis, great nieces and nephews Julia, Jared, and Daniel Long, Christopher and Charlotte Usher, Olivia and Brooklyn Davis, and his dear friend Toni Davis.

All services were held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Greater Rochester Spina Bifida Association, PO Box 3, Fairport, NY 14450.
