Arthur "Art" Janzen

February 20, 2022. Art passed away peacefully at the age of 81. He is predeceased by his son Michael Janzen. He is survived by his loving family, including his wife Linda (Boettcher) Janzen, his daughters Audra Schmitt (Eric) and Lyndsay Janzen, and his grandsons David, Ian, and Colton. In addition, Art is survived by a loving extended family in Canada.

Art was born in 1940 in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine (former USSR). World War II soon disrupted and engulfed the Russian Mennonite community to which his family belonged. As a young boy, along with his mother and grandmother, he fled the region and for two years lived in a Displaced Persons refugee camp in war-torn Germany. In 1949, when Art was nine years old, they immigrated to Ontario, Canada, and began a new life.

It was in Ontario, Canada he met and married the love of his life, Linda, and moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue his college degree. He earned an electrical engineering degree from Northrup University and was quickly recruited by Kodak. Art and Linda moved to Rochester, New York for Art's employment at Kodak and also to be closer to their families in Canada. He and Linda raised their three children in the Rochester suburb of Greece and built a wonderful life. Art was deeply committed to his family and serving his community through a variety of activities connected to his children. At different points in time, he served as a YMCA Indian Guide leader and Boy Scout Scoutmaster, he coached soccer teams through Greece Recreation and later was a coach in the early years of competitive travel soccer in the region.

Art proudly worked at Kodak for 28 years. Following his retirement, he kept busy working at first in financial planning and later as a courtesy driver for Ralph Honda. In his retirement, he was able to golf often and attend movies with his wonderful circle of friends. Art and Linda took memorable vacations to national parks around the USA, across the eastern seaboard of Canada, and many more places around the world. Throughout his later years, he spent as much time as he could with his family and grandsons.

Art was beloved by anyone who met him; he was kind, caring, and gracious to all. To those who knew him a bit better, they were witness to his wonderful dry sense of humor; a sense of humor he demonstrated until the very end of his life. Following a life-changing stroke in August of 2020, the family is grateful for the care and support of the URMC physical therapy team, Julie Streeter and Renee Hetzler, and Kellie Chisolm, his wonderful home health caregiver.

Art touched many lives in so many ways; the outpouring of love following his passing has given his family comfort and they are so happy they could share a part of him during his time with us.

Art's life story will be shared during his visitation, March 4th, 4-7 PM at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane, (Between 390 & Long Pond Rd.). Graveside services in White Haven Memorial Park will be private. Those wishing may consider donating to a charity of choice in Art's memory.
