Megan's Life Story

Megan Hornberger was born July 10, 1976, to parents Tezelia and Larry Hornberger at Brockport's Lakeside Hospital. Her mother was an elementary school reading teacher and her father worked at Kodak. Megan was born in our nation's Bicentennial year, in fact, she was due July 4th (but arrived almost a week later).
The next winter, when Megan was only one, the Hornberger family would be snowed in for a week in Hamlin as they watched the storm's accumulation creep higher up the nearby light poles. As Megan grew up, she enjoyed the support of a close and loving family, always celebrating together with holidays and vacations.

Megan began her education at Autumn Lane and Brookside elementary schools. She went on to graduate from Greece Athena in 1994 where she played soccer. Megan continued her education at FLCC and MCC, and eventually earned a degree from Bryant and Stratton College, too. She attended the Genesee Valley School of Practical Nursing, became a medical administrative assistant, and finally an LPN in 2003. She used her certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse to work at various Rochester nursing homes.

Her sisters, Taryn and Darcy, carried their close bonds from childhood well into their adult lives. Megan was there for her nieces' births and babysat them as they got older. As an aunt to her sisters' children, she always made sure they had fun. She opened up her closet to them to try on clothes, facetimed with them, and kept them supplied with little gifts like bubbles, glow sticks, and headpieces.

Megan was a loving and generous soul who extended this kindness to animals, too. As a child, she enjoyed her time playing with Ruby, Monster, Sniffles, and Gizmo. As an adult, she became a mom to her dogs Denali, Diva, and Sadie. Megan was devoted to her dogs and, for couple years, traveled back and forth from North Carolina to Rochester with them.

Megan enjoyed baking, cooking, and traveling, visiting places all the way from Maine to Hawaii. Megan's cookies, stir fry, rice, and beans, and chex mix were some of her most popular creations. She loved watching true crime movies, lifetime, HGTV, cooking shows, and listening to R&B. Megan enjoyed cars and style, too. She always kept her car, her room, and her home well taken care of and tastefully decorated.

Most of all, she loved being a mother to her son, Jayden, who is now 7. Megan and Jayden went on many adventures together, traveling to The Villages in Florida, Disney World, Beaches Florida, Lake Placid, and Webster Lake in New Hampshire. Locally, they would go to the zoo, the Strong Museum, and Adventure Landing. From the start, Megan loved her family deeply. Once she had Jayden, he would always be the most important part of her life.

Megan's friends and family will remember her favorite saying "I love you to the moon and back". She made many friends throughout the years, simply being able to have fun together and talk. Some of her closest friends included Susie, Autumn, Tammy, Katie, Helen, and Jenn.

Megan was never one to sit by and be content. She was always ready for something new - a job, wardrobe, car, hairstyle, home décor project - any new challenge. Those who were fortunate enough to know Megan will remember her as a thoughtful, funny, loving, helpful, and giving person. Her beloved son Jayden is her legacy.

Remember that she loved all of you!
